Design phase safety and risk assessment for superconducting cryogenic systems.

Summary

The paper presents a conceptual model and guidelines for developing a comprehensive safety analysis which will identify and reduce potential hazards during concept and design stage. The paper generalizes experience gained by developing and establishing a risk management program to attain compliance with operation and support hazard analysis regulations and with the vertical standards for the specific hazards in cryogenic operations. As a result of this hazard and risk analysis process, provisions and actions for hazard prevention performed for different cryogenic industrial and research and development facilities are demonstrated.
