Summary
THE CONTINUITY AND ENERGY CONSERVATION EQUATION FOR ONE-DIMENSIONAL TRANSIENT FLOW ARE ESTABLISHED AND ANALYZED. SOLUTIONS TO THE EQUATIONS ARE OBTAINED BY THE METHOD OF CHARACTERISTICS AND THE SHOCK WAVE METHOD. BOTH METHODS PROVIDE A SET OF ANALYTICAL EQUATIONS THAT ALLOW PERFORMANCE PREDICTION OF THE HEAT AND MASS EXCHANGER WITH INFINITE TRANSFER COEFFICIENTS FOR ANY INLET AND OPERATING CONDITIONS.
