Development of a 2-watt class 4 K Gifford-McMahon cycle cryocooler.

Summary

The paper describes the principal design features and performance of the 4 K Gifford-McMahon cycle cryocooler by which the authors could obtain the cooling capacity of 2.2 watts at 4.2 K. The main features of this machine are its large-size expansion space, the use of a regenerator packed rectifiable meshes, and the combinational use of erbium(3)-nickel and erbium-nickel(0.9)-cobalt(0.1) as regenerator material. Experimental apparatus used and the results are described.
