Development of a cooling system using slurry ice transportation. 2. Dynamic ice making and storage system.

Summary

In a dynamic ice storage system, the authors successfully developed an ice-making system for efficient manufacture and storage of slurry ice, suitable for transportation. Ice is produced inside the tubes of multiple shell-and-tube heat exchangers, which are flooded type evaporators. When the ice thickness becomes several millimeters, a high temperature refrigerant is supplied to the ice-making machine and ice is peeled off by heating the heat-transfer tube. To investigate the performance of this ice-making system, the authors conducted experiments using an ice-making apparatus of 70 kilowatts scale. As a result, a COP of more than 3.5 was obtained.
