Summary

A new plate-type heat exchanger for high-pressure refrigerants was developed. The main part of this heat exchanger consists of plates packed together in a casing, and winding tubes are connected to both sides of the plates. Refrigerant flows inside the tubes, and water flows in the space between the plates. The performance of the heat exchanger developed as an evaporator was evaluated. This heat exchanger can transfer an equivalent amount of heat by evaporation compared with commercially-used herring-born-type plate heat exchangers. Furthermore, the pressure drop on the water side is less than 1/10th of that of the other heat exchangers.
