Summary

In the field of air conditioning and refrigeration, absorption machines play an important role to improve the energy and the environmental problems, because absorption machines can be driven by waste heat and can use natural substances as working fluids. The study aims to obtain the lower evaporator temperature below zero degrees by the water-lithium bromide absorption machine. For this purpose, pure water as refrigerant in evaporator is mixed with the absorbent solution. The single effect absorption machine, which was modified to mix the absorbent into the refrigerant, was used as the experimental apparatus. The modifications were installing two tanks putting between condenser and evaporator for keeping the refrigerant level in evaporator constant and mixing the absorbent solution into the refrigerant. It was shown that the absorption machine using water-lithium bromide as the working fluid can achieve the lower evaporator temperature below zero degrees, although mixing the absorbent solution into the refrigerant causes the cycle performance to decrease lower than the case without mixing.
