Development of ammonia-ethane cascade cooling system for recycling used tires and plastics.

Summary

Recently, the industry has increasingly concerned about the energy crisis and environmental issues such as the global warming and ozone layer depletion. Above all the recycling of resources is considered to be important to preserve limited resources in the earth. The paper reports on an economical cooling system for crushing used tires and plastics at low temperatures below -100 °C, using ammonia/ethane as a natural refrigerant, in consideration of material properties at low temperatures and energy consumption. The specific cooling capacity and the COP is 46 kW at -100 °C and 0.34, respectively.
