Development of carbon dioxide as a volatile secondary heat transfer fluid to replace glycols.
Author(s) : PEARSON D. F.
Summary
The paper discusses power savings that could be obtained by the use of liquid carbon dioxide as a volatile secondary refrigerant compared to the current standard use of heat transferring liquids such as water or solutions of glycol. Even allowing for a degree of overfeed for the volatile secondary refrigerant, the mass flow can be reduced by a factor of about six compared to the mass flow required when only sensible heat is used. This results in significant savings in pump power.
