Development of simultaneous air-conditioning and water heating system using CO2 transcritical cycle.

Summary

A test rig of a CO2 system providing refrigeration for producing chilled water and hot water simultaneously has been built in ITB, Indonesia. This paper discusses design aspects and several experimental results. The test rig consists of a CO2 circuit, hot water and chilled water loops, and three indoor units. For 57 °C hot water temperature and 13 °C inlet air temperature to the conditioned rooms, total-COP is 4.2 and cooling-COP is 2.5. A higher COP could be expected if the test rig equipped with proper internal heat exchanger which is ineffective at the moment. The system seems to be one of attractive alternatives in the Indonesian refrigeration market.
