Developments in container refrigeration.

Author(s) : HEAP R. D., LAWTON A. R.

Summary

There are over 250,000 refrigerated containers in use worldwide. Technical developments have been accelerated by the need to meet environmental constraints and increasing quality standards. These developments are summarised, and the performance of modern units is compared to that obtained previously. Development of humidity control and more general atmosphere control has been slow, perhaps due to the costs of some of the technology. The current situation is reviewed and predictions are made for the future trends.
