Dispersion of flammable refrigerants from split air conditioners.

Author(s) : COLBOURNE D., BUTLER D.

Summary

In the study refrigerant concentrations arising from a catastrophic release from split-type air-conditioner air-handling units were monitored at various points within a test chamber. The result of the effects of internal circulation have enabled requirements to be proposed for both refrigerant charge sizes and air flow rates which can be incorporated into the design of air-conditioners so that flammable concentrations may be avoided.
