Displacement ventilation: calculated versus measured data.

Summary

Air temperature, air velocity and contaminant distributions in an office room with a (thermally driven) displacement ventilation system were calculated and compared with values measured in practice. The flow pattern from the model was in good agreement with the actual air flow pattern in the room. Air velocities at different positions in the room corresponded well with the measured values, except for the velocities near the inlet. Temperature effectiveness values were in close agreement. The measured and calculated values for the ventilation effectiveness were found to correspond fairly well. A ventilation effectiveness of approximately 1 was derived for the breathing zone (approximately 1.1 m), so no improvement was achieved compared with mixing ventilation.
