Summary

The distribution of vapour-liquid flow was numerically analysed in the evaporator header having multi-channels. To achieve better geometry of the header, several different cases were numerically tested from the viewpoint of the distribution of vapour-liquid refrigerant flow into channels. The different cases include the inlet tube position in the header and the width of header. In the study, the maldistribution number, is newly defined to estimate the averaged level of the flow distribution in the whole passes of the evaporator. As a result, the distribution of vapour-liquid flow in the header can be understood with a visualizing technique, and the optimum position of the inlet tube into the header and the width of header can be also proposed for the better distribution of vapour-liquid refrigerant (R-134a) flow.
