DOE TEST PROCEDURE SET UP MEASUREMENT ERRORS FOR UNITARY AIR CONDITIONERS.

Summary

IN THE PAPER THE EFFECT OF THE DAMPERS IS INVESTIGATED. THE ERROR CAUSED BY THE DAMPERS HAS BEEN STUDIED USING A SEMI-EMPIRICAL MATHEMATICAL MODEL. SOME EXPERIMENTAL DATA IS ALSO PRESENTED WHICH SHOWS THE SAME TRENDS AS THE MODEL. THE RESULTS SHOW THAT THE DAMPER LOCATION WITH RESPECT TO THE COIL AND THE TEMPERATURE MEASURING TRANSDUCER HAS VERY LITTLE EFFECT ON THE MEASURED CAPACITY. THE BIG EFFECT OF THE DAMPERS IS IN TRAPPING OF THE SO-CALLED OFF-TIME COOLING. CAPACITY DIFFERENCES OF 4-6 PERCENT CAN BE EXPECTED. IT IS RECOMMENDED THAT THE DAMPERS BE REMOVED AND ALL UNITS BE TESTED WITH CONTINUOUS AIR FLOW OVER THE INDOOR COIL.
