Summary

IN 1990, THERE WILL BE SOME 3.5 MILLION HEAT PUMPS INSTALLED IN DWELLINGS HOUSING ONE OR SEVERAL FAMILIES ACCORDING TO A CONGRESS OF EXPERTS HELD IN DUSSELDORF IN NOVEMBER 1979. THEY CONCLUDED THAT A HEAT PUMP DRIVEN BY A GAS ENGINE IS MUCH SUPERIOR TO ONE WITH AN ELECTRICAL DRIVE. INSTALLATIONS ARE RAPIDLY GROWING: 8,000 IN 1979, AND 10,000 IN 1980. THE GAS DRIVEN HEAT PUMP HAS THE ADVANTAGE THAT THERE WILL BE NO STRAIN ON ELECTRICITY GENERATING STATIONS IN COLD WEATHER. WITH THE INCREASING PRODUCTION OF HEAT PUMPS THEIR PRICE CAN BE REDUCED, AND THE REDUCTION OF PETROL CONSUMPTION IS AN APPRECIABLE BENEFIT TO THE COUNTRY. (Bull. CNRS, FR., 80-730-16649.
