Driving decarbonization through intelligent operations: the role of process automation, AI, and robotics at Oman LNG.

Number: 87

Author(s) : AL-URAIMI S. M.

Summary

The global LNG industry faces mounting pressure to reduce its carbon footprint while maintaining efficiency and safety. Oman LNG (OLNG) addresses this challenge through its Intelligent Operations (IOPS) initiative—a strategic program leveraging automation, AI, and robotics to modernize operations and drive decarbonization. Built on three pillars—smart devices, plant-wide WiFi, and digitized procedures—IOPS enables real-time monitoring, predictive analytics, and energy optimization. Key innovations include autonomous robotic crawlers for methane detection and AI-driven tools for predictive maintenance and emissions forecasting. By integrating these technologies, OLNG enhances operational resilience, minimizes greenhouse gas emissions, and sets a benchmark for sustainable LNG production.
