Water wash strategy optimization for LNG gas turbine drivers.

Summary

Axial compressor degradation is a major contributor to performance loss in single-shaft gas turbines operating in mechanical drive LNG service. This degradation consists of non-recoverable losses, caused by clearance alterations, blade roughness, and physical damage, and recoverable losses, primarily due to fouling from dirt and dust accumulation on compressor blades. Performance recovery is commonly achieved through a combination of offline and online water washing.
This study focuses on optimizing water wash strategies for QELNG gas turbine units, aiming to balance performance recovery benefits against production losses during downtime and associated operational challenges. The analysis utilizes multi-year operational data from BH RM&D, corrected
to reduce variability from non-degradation factors. Recommendations will include an optimized water wash strategy to maximize gas turbine output, along with practical solutions to mitigate potential operational challenges.
