Summary
The article describes Eastgate in Harare, Zimbawe's largest commercial office and retail development and the first large modern building in Southern Africa to use natural ventilation and passive cooling without mechanical air conditioning. The article gives the first measurements of building thermal performance and energy consumption which indicate there will be savings in running and maintenance costs.
