Summary

This paper provides the basis for a generic comparison of the financial considerations involved in choosing between an air cooled or water cooled plant for heat rejection in air conditioning and process applications. The analysis utilizes the concept of Total Annual Charges to reflect a comparable parameter of annualized costs between water cooled heat rejection (cooling towers) and air cooled heat rejection (direct air to air condensing of the refrigerant) systems.
