Education: a vital factor to promote refrigeration techniques in developing countries.

Author(s) : GAC A.

Type of article: Article, IJR article

Summary

On the occasion of the survey launched by the Institute at the end of its campaign 'Refrigeration for Development' in order to assess the situation of the training of specialists in refrigeration throughout the world it appeared that the shortage of senior staff (engineers and doctors) is about 10 000 per year. The shortage of technicians and skilled workers is of the same order of magnitude and ranges between 15 000 and 20 000 per year. Considerable efforts should be made in order to promote training in refrigeration. Thus, on every occasion, the Institute attempts to realize or participate in the realization of courses and seminars. Examples of these actions are mentioned. The IIR recently created a working party on 'Education' in order to assess and identify the problems raised.
