EFFECT OF ADDITION AND DILUTION OF THE CRYOPROTECTANT ON THE VIABILITY OF FROZEN THAWED COW EMBRYOS.

EFFET DU MODE D'ADDITION ET DE DILUTION DU CRYOPROTECTEUR SUR LA VIABILITE DES BLASTOCYSTES DE VACHE APRES DECONGELATION.

Author(s) : RENARD J. P., HEYMAN Y.

Summary

ADDITION AND DILUTION OF THE CRYOPROTECTANT HAS AN IMPORTANT EFFECT ON THE SURVIVAL OF FROZEN-THAWED BOVINE EMBRYOS. COMPARED WITH STEPWISE DILUTION OF GLYCEROL 1.5 M, ONE STEP DILUTION ALLOWS A BETTER SURVIVAL IN VITRO AND IN VIVO OF THE EMBRYOS PROVIDING SUCROSE, A COMPOUND WHICH DO NOT PERMEATE THE CELLS, IS ADDED TO THE MEDIUM. A METHOD WHICH INVOLVES BOTH ONE STEP ADDITION AND REMOVAL OF THE GLYCEROL IS PROPOSED. THE RESULTING PREGNANCY RATES ARE ONLY 10 TO 15% LOWER THAN AFTER TRANSFER OF FRESH EMBRYOS.
