CRYOPRESERVATION OF PLATELETS WITH GLYCEROL.

Summary

PLATELET CONCENTRATES WERE FROZEN IN REUSABLE STAINLESS STEEL CONTAINERS WITH LIQUID NITROGEN USING GLYCEROL IN A FINAL CONCENTRATION OF 0.38-0.48 MOL/LITRE. THE CRYOPRESERVED PLATELETS WERE THAWED AT 311 K (38 DEG C) AND TESTED WITHOUT WASHING BY SOME IN VITRO AND IN VIVO METHODS LIKE HYPOTONIC SHOCK RESPONSE, AGGREGATION, SEROTONIN UPTAKE, CLOT RETRACTION AND SURVIVAL RATE WITH THE GAMMA MODEL. CRYOPRESERVATION OF PLATELETS WITH GLYCEROL -SIMILAR TO DMSO -RESULTS IN A DIFFERENT REDUCTION OF SOME BIOCHEMICAL PARAMETERS IN COMPARISON WITH FRESH CELLS.
