Effect of citrus rootstocks and waxing on shelf life and quality of "Valencia" orange fruits (Citrus sinensis L.).

Summary

Fruits of Valencia orange trees grafted on various citrus rootstocks were harvested and waxed with Flavorseal, Britex and Citrashine followed by storage at 5 °C and 90% relative humidity. Results showed that varying citrus rootstocks had no measurable influence on shelf life and other parameters of Valencia orange fruits during cold storage. Waxing with Flavorseal, Britex and Citrashine was very effective in prolonging shelf life (up to three months) and decreasing both decayed fruit and weight loss.
