Effect of local CO2 release of refrigeration and uptake of vegetation on global warming.
Author(s) : VÁRSZEGI T., CZÓBEL S., SZIRMAI O.
Summary
One of the most common methods applied for "eco-efficiency" considerations of "greenhouse gases" and "refrigeration systems" is based on the calculation of TEWI (Total Equivalent Warming Impact). It has been already proved that vegetation plays significant roles in the global carbon cycle and furthermore that one together with the other ecosystem components is mainly/mostly net carbon absorber. It could be and should be integrated into TEWI by an additional section marking by TEWI(v) on C sequestration of a particular area of the globe, e.g. a particular region of Hungary. In the paper, the calculation method and equations on TEWI(v) as well as data on parameters and a case study on the calculation are presented. TEWI(v) makes it possible to evaluate more precisely the effect of the refrigeration system installed in a particular region to the change in the local ecosystem and its contribution to global warming. Also, it expresses how the vegetation existing in a particular region could be taken into account to determine the emission quota for a particular country.
