Summary

The effects of partial substitution of La by Nd in La1-aNdaFe13-x-yCoySix alloys (0 = a = 0.12) are investigated. Our results suggest that the impact of Nd on the magnetocaloric properties correlates to the Co concentration. In Co-poor samples (y = 0.68), a reduction of the Curie temperature by –27.17°C/f.u.Nd, is observed. The addition of Nd, however, has no considerable improvement on the adiabatic temperature change. In contrast, the significance of Nd incorporation in Co-rich alloys (y = 1.03) is more evident. A stronger decrease in TC (–38.19°C/f.u.Nd) and a monotonic improvement up to 6% in the adiabatic temperature change are observed.
