Summary

SIMULTANEOUS EFFECT OF TEMPERATURE AND MOISTURE ON THE EFFECTIVE THERMAL CONDUCTIVITY OF DUNE SAND AND BRICK SAND HAVE BEEN STUDIED EXPERIMENTALLY. DISTILLED WATER AND TERTIARY AMYL ALCOHOL ARE USED TO SATURATE THE DUNE SAND AND BRICK SAND. MEASUREMENTS HAVE BEEN MADE FROM 278 TO 248 K (5 TO -25 DEG C). FOR LOW MOISTURE CONTENT, THE VARIATION OF EFFECTIVE THERMAL CONDUCTIVITY FROM 278 TO 248 K IS LESS. AS THE MOISTURE CONTENT INCREASES, EFFECTIVE THERMAL CONDUCTIVITY INCREASES SHARPLY.
