Summary

Chitosan, a naturally derived polymer, was applied as preharvest and postharvest treatment for the control of the major fruit storage rots of strawberry (Botrytis cinerea and Rhizopus stolonifer). The best results were observed from treating fruits at the whitening stage. Similarly, chitosan, at the highest concentration, gave the greatest reduction of grey mould in postharvest treatments, where the incidence of rhizopus rot was negligible.
