Summary

After fruit set, 1 or 2% calcium nitrate solutions were sprayed on the leaves of Starking Delicious apple trees, 4 times at 25-30-day intervals, in a trial conducted in Turkey. After harvest, fruits were stored for 90 days at 3 °C. Calcium nitrate significantly increased fruit calcium and nitrogen contents, dry matter, vitamin C, firmness and brix, and decreased reducing sugar contents. At the end of the storage period, the incidences of bitter pit and P. expansum were also significantly reduced.
