Efficacy of biocides in controlling microbial populations, including Legionella, in cooling systems.
Author(s) : POPE D. H., DZIEWULSKI D. M.
Summary
Ten cooling towers were tested to determine possible correlations between Legionella numbers and physical, chemical, biological, and operational parameters. Significant correlations were found between total bacteria and Legionella levels. Five biocides were tested. Only frequent, high doses of organic biocides or low-level continuous treatment with an oxidizing biocide have a real effect.
