Efficiency improvements of CO2 transcritical refrigeration systems by machine-made subcooling.

Number: pap. n. 20

Author(s) : PETRÁK M.

Summary

Currently, CO2 has a lower efficiency than HFC refrigerants especially when CO2 is operated in the transcritical area. The efficiency can be increased by cooling the transcritical refrigerant further down to lower temperatures than those delivered from the gas cooler. It can be done either by an external chiller or by integration into the CO2 cycle as a kind of a multi-stage cycle. Both possibilities are explored and compared.
