Summary
A technical and energy analysis of the performance of a small-scale LNG plant using pre-cooling with a refrigerator based on the organic Rankine cycle was carried out. The first step of the calculation is modelling and optimization of the mixed refrigerant natural gas liquefaction cycle with propane VCR precooling to determine the value of heat and energy flows under various environmental conditions. The second step is simulation of ORC cycles using the obtained values of high-potential heat. The minimum possible cooling temperature is found in the point of intersection between required cooling capacity and possible cooling capacity of ORC-VCR system. The data on effective working natural substances and modes and on the applicability of the technology as a whole are obtained. The cost benefit compared to the vapour compression refrigeration machine is up to 15%, depending on the type of Rankine cycle used and the type of working substance.
