EFFICIENT PROCESSES TO PRODUCE ULTRAHIGH PURITY NITROGEN.

Author(s) : AGRAWAL R., KLEINBERG T.

Summary

THE RAPIDLY GROWING ELECTRONIC INDUSTRY REQUIRES GASEOUS NITROGEN WITH CONCENTRATIONS OF CONTAMINANTS BELOW 50 PPB AND PREFERABLY BELOW 5 PPB. IN ORDER TO MEET THESE SEVERE PRODUCT SPECIFICATIONS, PURIFICATION EQUIPMENT HAS BEEN ADDED TO CONVENTIONAL AIR SEPARATION PLANTS. THIS APPROACH ADDS SIGNIFICANT CAPITAL AND OPERATING COSTS INCREASING THE COST OF THE NITROGEN PRODUCT. THIS PAPER DISCUSSES THE LOGICAL EVOLUTION OF THE DISTILLATION CONFIGURATIONS AND CONCEPTS WHICH HAVE MADE THE PROCESSES FOR THE PRODUCTION OF ULTRAHIGH PURITY NITROGEN MUCH SIMPLER AND MORE ECONOMICAL.
