Empirical equations to predict heat-transfer coefficients for condensation of binary-vapour mixtures.

Author(s) : FUJII T.

Summary

It is explained that the deterioration of the heat-transfer performance in condensation of binary-vapour mixtures is due to accumulation of the volatile component at the vapour-liquid interface. Experimental results compare well with theoretical predictions in the cases of condensation on a vertical cylinder, inside a vertical tube, in a plate-fin condenser with serrated-fins, inside a horizontal tube and in a tube bundle. However, the heat-transfer coefficients for the mixtures of alcohols and water and some combination of fluorocarbons are larger than the predicted values, due to the appearance of dropwise and streakwise condensate film.
