Summary
The results of an energy analysis with the aim of planning an experimental green roof placed on the covering of a university building situated at the University of Calabria (Southern Italy). The study is based on the realisation of a thermophysical model of the building and the green roof by means of the Energy Plus dynamic simulation code. In particular different materials forming the functional layers and vegetation of the green roof with different characteristics were considered in the investigation, with the aim of identifying the most advantageous type of green roof based on the existing covering properties and climatic conditions. The energy performance of the green roof was evaluated in summer and winter functioning regimes by means of the determination of the variation in thermal requirements of the premises below the green roof compared to the existing case with a traditional roof. The results obtained from the numerical simulation will be considered as the reference for the realisation of the experimental site.
