Energy efficiency of variable capacity ground source heat pumps.

Author(s) : MUNARI P., DA RIVA E., DEL COL D., et al.

Summary

The energy performance of variable-capacity geothermal heat pumps is compared against the performance of on/off controlled equipment. Three major aspects have been taken into account: the effect of the water temperature, the effect of the performance of the heat exchanger at partial loads, and the compressor global efficiency. The electrical efficiency of asynchronous motors at variable speed is compared against the efficiency of permanent magnet brushless motors. Both theoretical and experimental results are reported in the paper.
