A MANDATORY LABELLING SYSTEM HAS BEEN INTRODUCED IN AUSTRALIA TO INDICATE THE EFFICIENCY AND PREDICTED POWER USAGE OF DOMESTIC APPLIANCES. THE PROGRAMME OF TESTING FOR RATING IS BEING EXTENDED SO THAT INDEPENDENT FIGURES CAN BE DETERMINED. A SIMILAR SCHEME IN THE USA HAS ALREADY LED TO THE REDESIGN OF SUB-STANDARD PRODUCTS. A.R.T.
