Summary

Two industrial systems today on the market are illustrated as the most efficient water chillers for air conditioning service; both are based on centrifugal compressors with a capacity control using speed variation combined with the rotation of the inlet vanes. The systems in question are: a) a total energy modulus with a centrifugal compressor driven by an internal combustion engine combined with an absorption unit powered by the heat recovered from the thermal engine; b) a more conventional water chiller with a centrifugal compressor driven by an electric motor operated through an inverter.
