Summary

The contribution presents two office buildings with heating and cooling provided by a low temperature heating/high temperature cooling system. The first building uses natural gas boilers as the heat source and chillers to generate cooling. Radiant panels are suspended under the ceiling to emit the heat/cold into the space. The other office building uses heat pumps to generate heat/cool, and capillary pipes are installed in the ceiling plaster to emit the heat/cold into the space. The design of the systems is described and the two buildings are categorized into energy performance classes in accordance with the set of the European CEN standards and the Slovak national regulations. The calculations show the potential of high energy efficiency of the low temperature heating / high temperature cooling systems and the effect of using heat pumps as a renewable energy source on the energy performance.
