Summary

The author describes the use of electronic expansion valves in a pilot supermarket in Milan, Italy. The objectives of the project were to increase the energy consumption of the refrigerating plant by 20% and re-pay the investment within 15-18 months. These expansion valves can be used in all types of display cases or cold rooms. The author calculates consumption with conventional expansion valves and with electronic ones. Energy savings due to the use of electronic valves are 22.5%. All control devices are connected to a network. Control data are recorded and can be transmitted by a modem to the company's computer system. J.G.
