Summary

THE OBJECTIVE OF THIS PRELIMINARY INVESTIGATION IS TO PREPARE A DESIGN FRAME FOR A WATER-BORNE SYSTEM FOR THE RECOVERY OF HEAT FROM REFRIGERATION CONDENSERS IN SINGLE-STOREY FOOD STORES (SHOPS). THE PRESENT AIR-BORNE SYSTEMS FOR THE RECOVERY OF REFRIGERATION HEAT, AS INSTALLED DURING THE 1970S, HAVE NOT GIVEN THE ENERGY SAVINGS EXPECTED OF THEM, DUE TO HIGH ENERGY CONSUMPTION BY COMPRESSORS AND FANS. FURTHER RELATIVELY COMPLICATED CONTROL YEAR IS REQUIRED FOR THE FANS AND DAMPERS IN ORDER TO DEAL WITH ALL OPERATING MODES, AND A CONSIDERABLE AMOUNT OF THE POTENTIAL HEAT RECOVERY IS LOST IN THE EVENT OF ANY FAULT. VERY LOW FLOOR SURFACE TEMPERATURES OF ABOUT 10;12.C TEND TO OCCUR DUE TO A LAYER OF COLD AIR WHICH SPILLS OUT OF REFRIGERATION AND FREEZER CABINETS AND DISPLAYS ETC. IT IS EXPECTED THAT USE OF THE WATER-BORNE SYSTEMS, AS DESCRIBED IN THE PRELIMINARY INVESTIGATION, WILL REDUCE THE ANNUAL ENERGY CONSUMPTION IN SHOPS OF THIS SPOSES OF THE PROBLEM OF LOW FLOOR SURFACE TEMPERATURES AND ENABLES THE BUILDING REGULATION REQUIREMENTS FOR THERMAL INDOOR CLIMATE TO BE COMPLIED WITH. THE REPORT ALSO INCLUDES A DESCRIPTION OF A MODEL FOR CALCULATING THE ENERGY BALANCES OF SHOPS OF THIS TYPE. (SYNOP. SWED. BUILD. RES., SE., N. 1, FEB.1981, 14).
