Summary

A series of studies has been performed on metal hydride beds to measure the effective thermal conductivities. The effective thermal conductivities of metal hydride bed in hydrogen and helium have been examined. Experiment results show that the pressure has a great influence on the effective thermal conductivity in the low pressure range, and that its influence decreases rapidly with the increase of the gas pressure. The reason is at low pressure, the mean free path of gas becomes greater than effective thickness of gas film which is important to the heat transfer mechanism in the research.
