Summary

A COMBINATION OF A TWISTED TAPE AND AN INTERNALLY GROOVED ROUGH TUBE IS PROPOSED AS A MEANS OF ENHANCING HEAT TRANSFER IN SINGLE-PHASE TURBULENT FLOW. HEAT TRANSFER IS INCREASED REMARKABLY IF THE TAPE IS TWISTED CONTRARY TO THE DIRECTION OF ROTATION OF THE GROOVES AND THE GROOVES HAVE A HIGH RELATIVE ROUGHNESS, WITH A VALUE OF 2.2% WITH RESPECT TO THE TUBE DIAMETER BEING MORE EFFECTIVE THAN 1.1%. FOR THE SAME POWER CONSUMPTION, THE HEAT TRANSFER COEFFICIENT IS 3.0-3.5 TIMES HIGHER, WHILE FOR THE SAME PUMPING POWER AND HEAT DUTY, THE HEAT TRANSFER SURFACE IS 70-75% SMALLER THAN WITH A SMOOTH TUBE.
