THE CURRENT STATE OF TECHNOLOGY FOR ENHANCING HEAT TRANSFER IN BOILING REFRIGERANT OUTSIDE OR INSIDE HORIZONTAL TUBES IS REVIEWED. THE MECHANISM OF ENHANCED HEAT TRANSFER IS BRIEFLY DESCRIBED IN EACH CASE, AND SEVERAL EXAMPLES OF THE ENHANCED HEAT TRANSFER CHARACTERISTICS ARE PRESENTED, BOTH FOR PURE REFRIGERANT AND FOR REFRIGERANT-OIL MIXTURES.
