Summary

Outline of the Annex, methodologies used and the results of the study are presented. The main goal of the Annex was to increase awareness of industrial heat pumps by providing examples and showing the economic potential of this technology, and to provide information and decision tools that could help the use of industrial heat pumps. The results of the US national study that, together with the other countries' studies, formed the basis for an international assessment of industrial heat pump use to date (1995), and the potential energy and environmental benefits are summarised. The potential yearly emission reductions with industrial heat pumps are tremendous.
