Summary

Under the new penal code, applicable from March 1 1994, and regulations being prepared at the European level, insurance companies will exclude environmental damage from their conventional contracts. From now on, French companies will have to involve themselves in a changing "environment", essential to their commercial activities, with European law taking precedence, even if not ratified, over national law.
