Environmental economy of low-enthalpy energy resources in district energy systems.

Author(s) : KILKIS B. I.

Summary

In order to emphasize the economic and environmental benefits of using low-enthalpy energy resources in district energy systems, new rating parameters were developed with the main emphasis on exergy. The described system (Adapazari, Turkey) utilizes waste heat at 37 °C from a 780 MW, combined-cycle, natural gas-fired power plant and shall be assisted by ground-source heat pumps. An optimization study was carried out using the new rating parameters, indicating that the overall conversion efficiency of the power plant shall improve 57% to 66%.
