TREATS THE ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT IN THE NETHERLANDS OF THE USE OF HEAT PUMPS AND CONDENSING BOILERS FOR SPACE HEATING. ILLUSTRATES SCHEMATICALLY AND DISCUSSES POSSIBILITIES OF COMBINING ENERGY-SAVING OPTIONS WITH RESPECT TO FUEL, TYPES OF HEAT PUMP PROCESS AND DRIVE, HEAT SOURCES AND HEAT EMISSION SYSTEMS. USES THE RESULTS OF THE MIEN STUDY ON ENVIRONMENTAL EFFECTS CARRIED OUT AT THE STATE UNIVERSITY OF GRONINGEN. CONCLUDES THAT POLLUTION CAN BE REDUCED BY MORE STRINGENT SAFETY REGULATIONS AND STANDARDS AND THE APPLICATION OF THE APPROPRIATE HEAT PUMP TYPES.
