Summary

THERMODYNAMIC HEATING IN THE FORM OF COMBINED POWER AND HEAT GENERATION OR USING HEAT PUMPS IS AN EFFICIENT WAY OF REDUCING THE CONSUMPTION OF PRIMARY ENERGY. THE CHOICE AND DESIGN OF SYSTEM DEPEND LARGELY ON THE OVERALL ENERGY SITUATION IN THE AREA. ELECTRICALLY-DRIVEN HEAT PUMPS HAVE GREAT ADVANTAGES IN A WATER POWERCOUNTRY, AND TO A LESSER EXTENT IN A NUCLEAR GENERATION ECONOMY. IN A FOSSIL FUEL ECONOMY THE SITUATION IS LESS CLEAR, AND COGENERATION HAS DEFINITE MERITS IN AREAS OF CONCENTRATED HEAT CONSUMPTION.
