Summary

The author suggests a simple method to establish the performance of a compressor using a refrigerant other than that stated in published values. The cycle plotted on a pressure-enthalpy diagram is used to compare theoretical with published data, enabling volumetric and isometric efficiencies to be calculated. These are then modified by reference to charts shown in the article and used to rework performance data for the new refrigerant. Computer programs are available also for the entire process.
