Summary

A solar assisted dehumidified air drying system consisting of an evacuated tube heat pipe solar collector, an energy storage tank, an auxiliary heater, adsorbent layers, a water to air heat exchanger, a water-circulating pump and a drying chamber is designed and constructed. The system is designed to operate at low temperature and low relative humidity and has three processes, namely regeneration, dehumidification, and batch drying. The performance of the drying system could be represented by its evaporative capacity defined as the average rate at which water could be extracted from the product by the drying system. The paper presents the evaporative capacity of solar assisted dehumidified air-drying system for tropical fruit (guava).
